Akihabara: List of Events & Festivals for 2025
Tokyo is the epicenter of Japanese pop culture, with areas like Akihabara, Ikebukuro, and Nakano showcasing the best of what Japan's pop culture has to offer. When I first visited Akihabara, I was overwhelmed by the electric atmosphere and the powerful presence of otaku culture. I'm writing this article because I want to share this incredible experience with international visitors to Japan.
In recent years, as anime and manga have gained popularity worldwide, there's growing interest in guided tours that let visitors explore otaku culture with local experts.
Magical Trip, which won TripAdvisor's #1 tour ranking across all categories in 2024, offers the "Akihabara Anime & Gaming Adventure Tour" where visitors can experience Akihabara's otaku culture alongside local guides. This hugely popular tour has attracted over 3,500 international visitors through 2024.
(Tokyo Bar Hopping Night Tour in Shinjuku was ranked #1)

If you're interested in otaku culture, I recommend starting with this Akihabara tour to deepen your understanding of Japanese pop culture before visiting the otaku spots I'll introduce in this article!

Introduction
Akihabara, a popular tourist destination alongside Asakusa and Shibuya, is the epicenter of Japan's subculture. In Japan, "subculture" refers to manga, anime, games, and idol culture, also known as "otaku culture."
Akihabara is filled with specialty stores dedicated to these interests, giving it a unique atmosphere that differs from other Tokyo neighborhoods. "Maid cafes," where staff dressed as maids provide service, have become an Akihabara trademark. The "Electric Town" area, filled with Japanese electronics, is another must-see attraction.
Throughout the year, various events related to anime, games, electronics, and idols take place in Akihabara. The surrounding area also features many historic shrines where you can experience traditional ceremonies, adding to its appeal.
In this article, we'll introduce the annual Akihabara Events 2025 that attract attention from visitors worldwide. Please check each month's event summary for detailed information!

New Year and Winter Events in Akihabara 2025
Early in the year, Tokyo typically experiences many clear days with dry air. The average temperature is around 5 degrees Celsius, making it the coldest season of the year. Be sure to dress warmly to enjoy sightseeing comfortably.
Here we'll introduce regular ceremonies and special winter events from January to February. Please check each month's event articles for access details and more information about these Akihabara Event 2025 highlights.
Notable Akihabara Events in January 2025
January features events celebrating the New Year throughout Tokyo. If you're spending the year-end and New Year in Tokyo, "Hatsumode" (first shrine visit of the year) is essential. There are many recommended spots for Hatsumode around Akihabara.
Beyond Hatsumode, there are also unique Akihabara Event 2025 celebrations worth checking out!
Hatsumode (January 1-7, 2025)
Hatsumode is a traditional Japanese New Year's custom where people visit a shrine or temple for the first time in the new year to pray for peace and happiness.
Visits beginning at midnight on January 1st are considered Hatsumode. While there are no strict rules about the period, most people visit by January 3rd, known as "Sanganichi" (the first three days of the year).
Many people visit shrines with family or friends, draw fortune slips (omikuji), or purchase talismans and amulets. If you're spending the New Year in Japan, don't miss this cultural experience as part of the Akihabara Event 2025 calendar!
Kanda Myojin
Located a 7-minute walk from Akihabara Station, Kanda Myojin is a shrine with 1,300 years of history. After moving to its current location during the Edo period, it became beloved as the guardian deity of Edo. Because it's believed to bring business prosperity, many corporate employees visit for Hatsumode.
Fitting for its Akihabara location, this unique shrine is known for having deities related to IT, such as smartphones and computers.
The main shrine building, which has survived earthquakes and air raids, is designated as a national cultural property and stands out with its vibrant vermilion color.
Another attraction is the café and souvenir shop on the premises. At the café, you can enjoy drinks and sweets that have been blessed at the shrine. Be sure to visit after your prayers as part of your Akihabara Event 2025 experience!

Yanagimori Shrine
Source:Wikipedia
Yanagimori Shrine is located a 5-minute walk from Akihabara Station. It originated as a guardian of the willow forest that was planted as a "demon gate protection" (a shrine to prevent disasters) for Edo Castle. This willow forest was also known as a famous place in Edo.
A slightly unusual feature worth seeing is that the main shrine building is positioned lower than the torii gate.
This shrine, which brings benefits for career advancement, financial fortune, and luck in competitions, is also called "Otanuki-san" or "Tanuki Shrine," with tanuki (raccoon dog) statues in various places throughout the shrine grounds. These tanuki statues, established by the mother of the 5th shogun, Tsunayoshi Tokugawa, are also popular as a power spot for women.
During the Akihabara Event 2025, many tourists will be visiting this atmospheric shrine for their first shrine visit of the year.

Akiba Shrine
Source:Wikipedia
Akiba Shrine is a historic shrine that is also the origin of the place name "Akihabara."
Around 1868, when a major fire occurred in this area, vacant land in what is now the Akihabara area was designated as "fire prevention grounds" to prevent the spread of fire. Akiba Shrine was established on this site as a shrine to pray for fire extinguishment.
Deities related to natural elements such as fire, water, and earth are enshrined here, which is believed to provide benefits for warding off evil and ensuring family safety. It also serves as the model for the shrine that appears in the anime "STEINS;GATE," which is set in Akihabara.
Located in a quiet residential area and not crowded even during New Year's, this shrine is recommended for tourists who want to enjoy a relaxed first shrine visit of the year. The Akihabara Event 2025 has highlighted this shrine as a must-visit cultural spot.

Yodobashi Camera's "Dream New Year's Gift Box"
Source:Yahoo! News
The "Dream New Year's Gift Box" is a "fukubukuro" (lucky bag) sold by the large electronics retailer "Yodobashi Camera." A "fukubukuro" is an assortment of various products sold without showing the contents. The excitement of not knowing what's inside until opening it and the value of getting something more expensive than the purchase price make it popular and a traditional New Year's custom in Japan.
Yodobashi Camera's fukubukuro can only be purchased by those who win a reservation lottery applied for through the official website. The appealing point is that you can choose the general product genre such as audio, games, home appliances, etc., and a price range of about 10,000 to 150,000 yen in advance, making it easier to get desired items such as popular game consoles or iPhones.
Items that are in stock may also be sold in stores during the first sale on January 1st, so interested tourists should check it out! The Akihabara Event 2025 will feature special limited edition fukubukuro for international visitors.

February 2025 Highlighted Events in Akihabara
In February, "Setsubun" events celebrating the seasonal turning point are held at shrines. Setsubun allows you to experience traditional Japanese customs and is an event that can only be enjoyed in Japan during February.
In addition, we'll introduce electrical and pop culture events characteristic of Akihabara. Please consider adding these to your travel plans for the Akihabara Event 2025!
Setsubun
"Setsubun" is the day before "Risshun" (the beginning of spring) and is a Japanese custom marking the transition from winter to spring. Originally, it referred to all seasonal changes, but only the February Setsubun, which was considered the beginning of the year in the old calendar, has become widespread.
During Setsubun events, to ward off evil and invite happiness, there is a tradition of throwing beans at demons called "Mamemaki." Beans have long been said to drive away misfortune and bring good luck. Recently, eating "Ehomaki" (lucky direction roll), a sushi roll eaten while facing the lucky direction of the year, has become established throughout the country.
Why not participate in Setsubun at nearby shrines along with your Akihabara sightseeing?
Kanda Myojin "Setsubun Festival Bean-Throwing Ceremony"
Source:Official website
The "Setsubun Festival Bean-Throwing Ceremony" held at Kanda Myojin is one of the famous Setsubun festivals in Tokyo.
Amid the light sounds of traditional Japanese music, individually wrapped beans are thrown from a special stage, with worshippers waiting below to gather them. Candies and gummies apart from beans are also popular with children. Japanese actors and comedians sometimes appear as guests at this exciting Akihabara Event 2025.
The highlight of the event is a traditional ceremony called "Meigen no Gi." Shinto priests and shrine staff appear dressed as ancient warriors and make gestures of shooting arrows toward the unlucky directions called "Kimon" and "Ura-Kimon."
Traditional performing arts such as Kyogen and short plays are also showcased, so please visit if you have the opportunity!

Akiba Shrine "Setsubun Festival"
Source:Tokyo Jinjacho
Akiba Shrine, which is the origin of Akihabara's name, also holds a Setsubun festival every February. The bean-throwing with many local children participating is a lively scene that would make demons run away. Although Akiba Shrine is usually quiet in a residential area, it becomes crowded with locals on the day of the Setsubun festival.
While not flashy, it's recommended for those who want to experience a community-oriented, homey Setsubun festival as part of the authentic Akihabara Event 2025.

Akihabara Electric Town Festival
Source:Official website
"Akihabara Electric Town Festival" is a major event that makes shopping in Akihabara even more enjoyable. It is held several times a year with each season, aiming to revitalize the area and create an easier shopping environment.
During this period, when you shop at participating stores in the Electric Town, you can receive lottery tickets for a chance to win shopping vouchers or original postcards as gifts, which is a delightful bonus.
Sometimes the festival collaborates with popular anime and games, and fans absolutely love seeing the streets filled with posters of their favorite characters.
The festival may be held at other times besides February, so if you're planning to purchase Japanese electronics, be sure to check in advance! This will be an amazing opportunity to experience the Akihabara Event 2025 that attracts visitors from around the world.

Kotobukiya Collection
Source:Official website
"Kotobukiya Collection" is a new product launch event by "Kotobukiya," a company that creates plastic models and figures. It started as an online event during the COVID-19 pandemic when going out was restricted.
Since 2023, it has continued as a real event with exhibitions at physical stores in Akihabara, featuring popular activities that couldn't be done online, such as stamp rallies where participants can receive limited edition goods.
In 2025, the event was held on a large scale at Akihabara's landmark "UDX Gallery," and was a great success with experiential events commemorating the 10th anniversary of the popular anime "Frame Arms Girl." The audience for the Akihabara Event 2025 was particularly enthusiastic about these special anniversary celebrations.
The official event characters "Kotokore-chan" and "Midori-san" are also popular, so check them out if you're interested.

Spring Events in Akihabara 2025
March through May is packed with events that let you feel the spring. While there may still be some cold days in March, it gets much warmer in April and May, making it an excellent season for tourism.
From late March to early April, events featuring cherry blossoms, which symbolize Japanese spring, are recommended. We also introduce sports events and traditional festivals held in the pleasant climate.
Please check the event articles for each month for details such as access information.
Notable Events in Akihabara in March 2025
In March, anime events unique to Akihabara and popular sports events will be held.
While it's a bit early for the general cherry blossom season, depending on the weather, some areas may reach full bloom around the end of the month. There are actually some lesser-known cherry blossom viewing spots around Akihabara.
Here we introduce recommended March events where you can feel the arrival of spring.
Tokyo Anime Award Festival
Source:Official website
The "Tokyo Anime Award Festival" is Japan's largest anime celebration, screening various anime works from both Japan and overseas. At the main event ceremony, awards are presented in the following three categories:
"Competition Division"
Works with originality submitted from around the world, regardless of feature or short length (limited to those not yet screened in Japan)
"Anime of the Year Division"
Anime works that have been screened, streamed, or broadcast in Japan during that year (including awards for works, individuals, and anime fan awards)
"Anime Merit Division"
People who have contributed to the development of the anime industry and culture
With the desire to "help children learn more about the world of animation," children's workshops are also held during the Akihabara Event 2025.

Tokyo Marathon 2025
Source:Tokyo Shimbun
The Tokyo Marathon, held since 2007, is one of Tokyo's most popular spring events. In recent years, it has become known for its high competition ratio for participation entries, making it a dream race for amateur runners.
The highlight of this event is the marathon course that passes through the following tourist attractions one after another:
Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building (starting point)
Shinjuku/Kabukicho
Akihabara
Ueno
Asakusa
Ryogoku
Ginza
Tokyo Station (finish line)
Along the way, there are sections where you can run while viewing Asakusa's Kaminarimon Gate, Tokyo Skytree, and Tokyo Tower, allowing you to enjoy the marathon with a tourist feeling. Many famous Olympic-level runners also participate, giving you the chance to cheer for your favorite athletes up close. The Akihabara Event 2025 will feature special cheering zones for tourists to experience this exciting atmosphere.
This year's marathon has ended, but if you're interested, please try participating next year.

Hanami (Cherry Blossom Viewing)
Hanami is a spring event where people enjoy meals and drinks while viewing cherry blossoms. It's common for families and friends to bring food together and spend time in large, lively groups. Spreading sheets under cherry trees to enjoy the festivities is a classic scene of Japanese spring.
There are famous cherry blossom spots and hidden viewing locations around Akihabara as well. After touring the streets of Akihabara, why not enjoy the full bloom of cherry blossoms? The Akihabara Event 2025 will include special cherry blossom illumination events that will attract a diverse international audience.
Please note that some shrines and parks prohibit eating and drinking, so check in advance when planning your hanami!
Kanda Myojin Shrine
Kanda Myojin holds various events throughout the year, but it's actually not well known as a cherry blossom viewing spot. The Somei Yoshino cherry trees planted throughout the shrine grounds are characteristically large and magnificent. Since there aren't too many cherry trees, you can appreciate each one at a leisurely pace.
My recommendation is the cherry tree right next to the entrance gate. The combination of the vermilion gate and pink cherry blossoms is beautiful, so please try taking photos from directly in front of the gate. It's also lovely to capture the cherry blossoms framing the gate.
When the sun sets, the trees are illuminated, allowing you to enjoy the night cherry blossoms. There are no food stalls, so it lacks the lively festival atmosphere, but the cherry blossoms viewed at this dignified shrine have an elegant charm that I highly recommend.

Miyamoto Park
Source:Chiyada City
Miyamoto Park is a hidden cherry blossom gem located right next to Kanda Myojin. It's a cozy park where local children play, but many cherry trees are planted throughout the grounds.
During full bloom, the contrast between the green plants in the park and the pink cherry blossoms creates a beautifully vivid scenery.
The back of the park connects to Kanda Myojin, making it ideal for leisurely enjoying cherry blossoms while taking a break after visiting the shrine. You can experience the atmosphere of a traditional Japanese park and feel the local community vibe.
The diaper changing station in the park restroom is also an attractive feature for families with small children.
Bring takeout lunch and a blanket to fully enjoy the cherry blossoms in a picnic atmosphere!

Akihabara Events 2025 Highlights for April
April, with its higher temperatures compared to March, is a pleasant season for outdoor events. Cherry blossoms reach full bloom in early April, making it an attractive time to enjoy hanami (flower viewing) in the warm spring weather.
I recommend visiting several cherry blossom spots around Akihabara.
Here, we've highlighted popular cherry blossom viewing locations near Akihabara and cherry blossom-related events. The Akihabara Event 2025 calendar features special performances and exhibitions that will attract a diverse audience of both locals and tourists throughout the spring season.
Chiyoda Sakura Festival
Source:VISIT Chiyoda
The "Chiyoda Sakura Festival" is an event celebrating cherry blossoms held throughout Chiyoda Ward from March to April. Visitors can enjoy a "Real Mystery-Solving Game" where you follow a story through various spots, purchase pub crawl tickets to enjoy Japanese sake, and find entertainment for both children and adults.
The highlight of the Sakura Festival is undoubtedly the cherry blossoms at Chidorigafuchi, one of Tokyo's premier cherry blossom viewing locations. My recommendation is to take the route circling around Chidorigafuchi, an area known as one of Japan's finest hanami (cherry blossom viewing) spots.
An absolute must-see is the "Chidorigafuchi Green Way," a 700-meter-long walkway lined with a tunnel of 230 cherry trees. You can experience the unique sensation of cherry blossoms cascading from above, available only during this season. During the festival period, the area is illuminated from around 6 PM to 9 PM.
My personal recommendation is viewing the cherry blossoms from a boat on the water. Boats are available even during evening hours, so please enjoy the nighttime experience as well.
There are also several places around Akihabara where you can enjoy cherry blossom viewing in April 2025. The Akihabara Event 2025 organizers have specifically highlighted these cherry blossom viewing spots for tourists visiting the electronics district. I'll introduce them below.

Ueno Park Cherry Blossoms
Ueno Park is a popular hanami spot every year. Many of the cherry trees in the park have a rich history, having been transplanted from Nara Prefecture to Edo about 400 years ago by a monk named Tenkai.
"Cherry Blossom Avenue," adorned with approximately 800 cherry trees, is the park's most spectacular viewing spot. At night, the trees are illuminated with paper lanterns, allowing visitors to fully enjoy the Japanese spring atmosphere. The area around Shinobazu Pond is also decorated with beautiful cherry blossoms, so sitting on a bench and admiring the view is also recommended.
The "Ueno Cherry Blossom Festival" is held during this period.
Highlights:
- Food stalls offering delicious cuisine from Japan and around the world
- Product exhibition featuring more than 50 stores from the Ueno area
- Stage events featuring idol groups and music concerts
- Traditional performances such as Edo Kotobuki Shishi (traditional lion dance)
Be sure to visit while touring Akihabara! The Akihabara Event 2025 will include special shuttle services connecting these cherry blossom spots for tourists wanting to experience both traditional Japanese culture and modern electronics district attractions.

Cherry Blossoms along the Sumida River (with Tokyo Skytree)
The Sumida River, with cherry tree lined banks stretching about 1km on both sides, is one of Tokyo's famous cherry blossom viewing spots. The view during full bloom is breathtaking, and just walking along the river will surely put you in a festive mood.
Sumida Park along the Sumida River has been selected as one of the "100 Famous Cherry Blossom Viewing Sites" and attracts many flower-viewing visitors. Within the park where approximately 1,000 cherry trees bloom magnificently, there are spots where you can see the Tokyo Skytree, making it popular for photography. Why not capture the collaboration of cherry blossoms and Skytree in your photos?
Until April 6th, the "Cherry Blossom Festival" is being held with food trucks and vendors. Another highlight is the traditional event called "Yabusame," where archers shoot arrows at targets while riding on galloping horses.
If you want to enjoy a relaxing spring day, please visit the Sumida River area.

Notable Akihabara Events 2025 - May Highlights
May in Tokyo is one of the most comfortable seasons for tourism throughout the year. With cherry blossoms gone and vibrant fresh greenery to enjoy, it's also recommended to leisurely stroll through the city.
While there aren't many events in Akihabara itself, the surrounding areas host large historic festivals. Please check out the following traditional events where you can experience authentic Japanese culture.
Kanda Matsuri (Kanda ~ Nihonbashi)
Source:PR TIMES
The "Kanda Festival" held at Kanda Myoujin is considered one of Japan's three major festivals, attracting over 300,000 visitors annually. Akihabara's Electric Town also becomes a "Festival Plaza," and the sight of numerous portable shrines (mikoshi) filling the streets is spectacular. This major Akihabara Event 2025 shouldn't be missed by any tourist visiting Tokyo in May.
Here are my three recommended highlights of the Kanda Festival:
Shinkou Sai (Divine Procession)
A grand procession where elaborate portable shrines and people dressed in Heian period costumes parade through the streets of Kanda and Akihabara for about 30km. The gorgeous and beautiful scenery allows you to enjoy the atmosphere of the Heian period.
Tsuke Matsuri (Attached Festival)
A parade featuring giant uniquely designed dolls with motifs from Edo period culture. This was the most popular festival event during the Edo period. The Tsuke Matsuri, filled with cheerful music and dancing, is a must-see.
Mikoshi Miyairi (Portable Shrine Entry)
More than 200 portable shrines from 108 town associations visit the shrine from morning to night. The sight of them entering the shrine with energetic chants is impressive and can be considered the biggest highlight of the Kanda Festival.

Yushima Tenmangu Annual Festival
Source:Official website
Located just a 17-minute walk from Akihabara Station, Yushima Tenmangu is a shrine dedicated to the god of learning, Sugawara no Michizane. Every May, an annual festival is held to pray for national development and local peace. This festival also expresses gratitude for being able to safely reach this day.
The annual festival, also called "Tenjin Festival," offers various attractions including traditional performing arts, Japanese drum performances, and displays of ikebana flower arrangements and bonsai, allowing visitors to experience diverse aspects of Japanese culture.
The portable shrine (mikoshi) travels approximately 300 meters from the shrine's front torii gate and back, energizing the festival atmosphere. Afterward, the mikoshi parades through the surrounding neighborhood, enveloping the area in powerful excitement.
The shrine grounds are decorated with numerous lanterns and lined with food stalls, creating a perfect festival mood.

It is performed to cleanse oneself of sins and impurities accumulated unknowingly over the past six months. Simultaneously, it serves as a prayer for good health during the remaining half of the year and is an important traditional event before enduring the hot summer.
While this ceremony is conducted at shrines throughout Japan, why not visit Kanda Myoujin's "Nagoshi no Oharae" during your trip to Akihabara Event 2025? This special cultural experience will be a highlight for any tourist exploring Tokyo's unique traditions.
The highlight is passing through a large ring made of woven "kaya" (miscanthus), a type of grass, known as "Chinowa-kuguri." This is a ritual to ward off evil, performed with wishes for the dispelling of illness and good health. It symbolizes drawing upon the vitality of the kaya grass, which grows robustly from hard ground.
Please take this opportunity to experience a traditional Japanese ceremony.

In the height of summer in July, there are many events where you can enjoy Tokyo's summer atmosphere. While special events within Akihabara itself are limited, you can enjoy events and festivals in the surrounding areas where you can learn about Japanese customs.

Tanabata Festival
Source:Official website
If you're interested in traditional Japanese summer events, why not participate in Kanda Myoujin's "Tanabata Festival"?
"Tanabata" is a "Star Festival" based on the myth of lovers Hikoboshi and Orihime who, separated on opposite banks of the Milky Way, are permitted to meet only once a year on July 7th.
In Japan, Tanabata is celebrated by hanging strips of paper with written wishes on bamboo branches. At Kanda Myoujin, a prayer ceremony is held where bamboo decorated with visitors' wishes is displayed in front of the shrine building to pray for the fulfillment of these wishes.
The colorful wish strips swaying in the wind on the bamboo create a cool and vibrant atmosphere. The area is illuminated from evening until 11 PM, making evening visits especially recommended during the Tanabata season.
Special Tanabata love charms inspired by Orihime and Hikoboshi are also sold, making perfect souvenirs for tourists visiting the Akihabara Event 2025!

Yasukuni Shrine Mitama Festival
Source:PR TIMES
The "Mitama Festival" held at Yasukuni Shrine is an event that honors the souls of those who died in war. "Mitama" refers to the spirits of ancestors and deities. Lanterns called "miakashi," donated by bereaved families and comrades from across Japan who were closely connected to the deceased, are displayed. The approximately 30,000 miakashi lanterns illuminating the night sky with their gentle light create a warm, symbolic scene that defines the Mitama Festival.
The Mitama Festival continues for four days including the eve celebration, featuring traditional performing arts from all over Japan such as Nebuta and Awa Odori. You can feel as if you're traveling throughout Japan while staying in Tokyo at this amazing Akihabara Event 2025.
During this period, the courtyard, which is usually off-limits, is open for worship (worship fee ¥1000). Limited edition amulets, available only on this day, are given out on a first-come, first-served basis, so please do visit.

Sumida River Fireworks Festival
Source: Official website
When it comes to Tokyo's representative fireworks festival, it's the "Sumida River Fireworks Festival" held on the riverbank of the Sumida River. Said to be Japan's oldest fireworks festival, nearly one million people visit every year. Originally, it was held in the Ryogoku area as a celebration to mark the beginning of summer. It boasts about 20,000 launches, the most in Japan.
The main event of the festival is the fireworks competition by skilled fireworks craftsmen. Only at this festival can you enjoy various fireworks, from traditional ones that evoke a sense of elegance to new styles that symbolize modern Tokyo.
Another attractive point is that the fireworks are launched from two different locations, allowing them to be viewed from a wide area.
Please come enjoy this summer tradition of Tokyo! The audience at the Akihabara Event 2025 will surely be amazed by this spectacular display.

Fall Events in Akihabara 2025 (September to November)
Fall, when the summer heat subsides, is an ideal season for tourism. Although September still has many hot days in recent years, you can feel the cool autumn breeze in the mornings and after sunset.
When it comes to fall attractions, autumn foliage tops the list. The leaves begin to change color from mid-October, reaching their peak beauty after mid-November. There are many beautiful foliage spots around Akihabara as well.
Here, I'd like to introduce recommended events where you can fully enjoy the Japanese autumn. Please check each month's event article for details such as access information. The Akihabara Event 2025 season promises to be particularly exciting for visitors from abroad!
Notable Akihabara Events in September 2025

I've selected Akihabara-style events and festivals where you can interact with locals. Please check them out below!
Rooftop Cooling Festival
Source:VISIT Chiyoda
The "Rooftop Cooling Festival" is held on the rooftop of Radio Kaikan, Akihabara's symbol. It's an event where you can relax and enjoy the cool breeze during early September when some summer heat still lingers.
From the rooftop, which is normally off-limits, you can get a panoramic view of Akihabara while enjoying the refreshing breeze. When I visited, there was a yo-yo fishing booth, and I received some tickets to try it myself.
Radio Kaikan is a facility packed with Akiba culture including anime, figures, plastic models, and games. At Akihabara's largest trading card specialty store, you might find rare items unavailable elsewhere.
The beer restaurant "Ginza Lion" in the basement offers authentic meals and beer in a retro-stylish atmosphere reminiscent of good old Japan.
Please enjoy this along with the cooling festival.

Kanda Nishikicho Goen-nichi

In late September, Kanda Nishikicho holds an autumn festival called "Goen-nichi." Kanda Nishikicho, about a 20-minute train ride from Akihabara, is a town with many shops and offices. During the Edo period, it was home to many samurai residences.
"Goen-nichi" is an event held with the concept of celebrating everyone connected to Kanda Nishikicho. "Goen" carries meanings like "encounters between people" or "fateful meetings."
During the festival, food stalls featuring specialty dishes from surrounding restaurants line the streets. The opening ceremony includes sports events such as tug-of-war competitions and kickboxing experiences!
This is a perfect event for those who want to experience a local atmosphere at a community-based celebration. The Akihabara Event 2025 calendar highlights this as a must-visit for tourists seeking authentic cultural experiences.

Notable Events in Akihabara in November 2025
November is typically when many areas reach their peak autumn colors around mid-month, accompanied by various events. The nighttime illumination of autumn leaves creates a beautiful scenery that can only be enjoyed during this season.
In addition to autumn foliage, there are many other highlights including traditional Japanese ceremonies where children take center stage. Here we've selected six recommended events for November. Please check them out below.
Shichi-Go-San Ceremony
Source:Official website
"Shichi-Go-San" is a traditional Japanese ceremony where children who have reached the ages of 3, 5, and 7 visit shrines to celebrate their growth. It also carries the meaning of praying for their continued healthy development and is held every November.
Generally, both boys and girls participate at age 3, only boys at age 5, and only girls at age 7. Girls wear kimono and boys wear hakama to celebrate this special day. At Kanda Myoujin, you'll likely see many adorable children dressed in their finest attire during November weekends as part of the Akihabara Event 2025 celebrations.
After the shrine visit, children traditionally receive "Chitose-ame," long thin candy sticks. While Chitose-ame is a custom throughout Japan, Kanda Myojin is said to be its place of origin.

AKIHABARA FILM FESTIVAL 2025

The "Akihabara Film Festival" is a cinematic celebration showcasing various works in the pop culture genre. This festival, which began in 2016, suspended operations during the pandemic but is making its comeback in 2025 after a five-year hiatus as a prominent Akihabara Event 2025.
With the concept of "a film festival gathering the 'favorites' of people who come to Akiba," this event features a lineup of films unique to Akihabara, including anime movies, manga and game adaptations, and idol-starring films.
One distinctive feature of this festival is the "cheering screening" style, where audience members cheer together or sing along during screenings. For this year's restart, the festival will be renewed with the aim of discovering and nurturing new creative talent.

Autumn Colors
In autumn, Tokyo offers beautiful fall foliage with ginkgo and zelkova trees. Depending on the year's temperature and plant varieties, Tokyo's autumn colors typically peak from late November to mid-December. Some begin changing in mid-October, creating a gradual, gradient-like transformation across the city—a uniquely beautiful sight during this season.
There are spots near Akihabara where you can enjoy spectacular autumn colors that attract many visitors. Don't miss the vibrant, limited-time autumn scenery accompanied by the crisp fall air, especially during the Akihabara Event 2025 season.
Kanda Myojin Shrine's Autumn Colors & Evening Illumination
Source:PR TIMES
When it comes to autumn colors at Kanda Myojin Shrine, the large ginkgo tree, which is considered sacred, is the highlight. During peak season, it turns completely golden, creating a striking contrast with the bright red main hall.
From late November to early December, trees and the main hall are elegantly illuminated in the evening, creating a magical scene different from daytime views. You can borrow round lanterns for free, enhancing your stroll through the grounds.
When I visited in 2023, there was an evening tea ceremony where matcha was served.
The nighttime Kanda Myojin, decorated with innovative light and sound effects, can only be experienced during this period. Enjoy the historic shrine and beautiful illumination during your visit to the Akihabara Event 2025.

Autumn leaves in Koishikawa Korakuen Garden
My favorite spot for autumn colors is "Koishikawa Korakuen." Created at the beginning of the Edo period, Koishikawa Korakuen is a Japanese garden designed for enjoying walks around a central pond. It's designated as a Special Historic Site of Japan.
Highlights include areas modeled after beautiful landscapes from around Japan—mountains, rural scenery, lakes, and rivers—as well as Chinese-style architecture.
With 500 Japanese maple trees, one of the largest collections in Tokyo gardens, you can enjoy autumn colors throughout the park.
My recommended spot is near "Tsutenkyo Bridge." The combination of the vermilion, semi-arched bridge with autumn colors is beautiful, and their reflection in the water is especially vivid.
During the autumn season, there are also events where you can enjoy traditional performances, making it a perfect cultural addition to your Akihabara Event 2025 itinerary!

2025 Akihabara Winter Events (December)
Tokyo gradually gets colder towards the end of the year, with an average temperature of around 7°C. While it rarely snows, proper warm clothing is necessary. Until early December, you can still enjoy autumn leaves, and foliage viewing spots remain quite lively.
Here, we'll introduce recommended year-end events around Akihabara. There are also traditional events where you can fully experience the Japanese year-end atmosphere. Please check each event article for details.
Notable Akihabara Events in December 2025
December features many Christmas and New Year's related events. If staying in Japan at year-end, it's recommended to participate in traditional activities only available during this season, such as "Joya no Kane" (New Year's Eve bell ringing).
Additionally, as the "Electric Town," Akihabara offers beautiful Christmas illuminations unique to the area, so please check them out below.

The walkway in front of "Akihabara UDX," a multi-purpose building near Akihabara Station, gets illuminated with lights during December. The 33 trees lined up straight are decorated with soft white lights, creating a romantic atmosphere that resembles fallen snow.
As you proceed down the tree-lined path, you'll find the main object featuring cool illuminations primarily in white and blue that enhance the Christmas mood.
Inside the building, the large wall on the second-floor deck and various corridors are also fantastically lit up.
Akihabara UDX houses various restaurants and bars, so it's also recommended to take a leisurely stroll after enjoying a meal.

Shiwasu Oharae Ceremony
Source:Official website
The "Shiwasu Oharae Ceremony" is a ritual to cleanse sins and impurities accumulated unknowingly throughout the year. It has a similar meaning to the "Nagoshi Oharae Ceremony" held in June. It also aims to pray for health and peace for the upcoming new year.
Participants write their name and age on a human-shaped paper called "hitokata" and entrust it with their sins and concerns to be purified. It can be thought of as a "spiritual cleaning."
Similar to the "Nagoshi Oharae Ceremony," the "Shiwasu Oharae Ceremony" includes a ritual of passing through a ring made of miscanthus grass. If you're spending the end of the year in Akihabara, be sure to experience this traditional ceremony at Kanda Myoujin!

Joya-no-Kane (New Year's Eve Bell Ringing)
"Joya-no-Kane" is a traditional event held on New Year's Eve, the last day of the year. The purpose of ringing the bell is to rid oneself of worldly desires and welcome the new year with a refreshed spirit. When Japanese people hear the solemn sound of the New Year's Eve bell, we feel a sense of reflection thinking, "Another year has safely come to an end."
It is believed that humans have 108 worldly desires, and the bell is typically rung the same number of times. Usually, 108 people take turns ringing the bell once each.
While there are no shrines in Akihabara that perform the New Year's Eve bell ringing, I'd like to introduce you to nearby temples where you can hear the bell sound.
Zojoji Temple
Located next to Shiba Park in Minato Ward, Zojoji is a temple with about 600 years of history. Because of its deep connection with the Tokugawa shogunate who survived numerous battles, it is believed to bring good luck in competitions.
At Zojoji, the New Year's Eve bell ringing takes place at midnight, the moment the new year begins. Although tickets distributed from December 1st are required to ring the bell yourself, just listening to the solemn sound of the bell will allow you to experience the emotional atmosphere of Japanese New Year's traditions.
The charm of this temple is the view of Tokyo Tower from the grounds. The sight of Tokyo Tower rising behind the main hall creates a beautiful landscape that blends historical ambiance with urban sophistication.
Why not visit for New Year's prayers while enjoying the sound of the bell and Tokyo's unique scenery? The Akihabara Event 2025 organizers highly recommend this experience for tourists seeking authentic Japanese traditions.

Higashi Honganji Temple
Source:Google Maps
Higashi Honganji in Asakusa is a temple with a spacious grounds and a calm atmosphere. It features a large, dignified main hall and possesses valuable Buddha statues and hanging scrolls.
On New Year's Eve, the general public can also ring the bell. Those with prior reservations are given priority, but you can participate without a reservation by obtaining a numbered ticket distributed from 11:00 pm on the day.
Before ringing the bell, you need to perform "Oshou ko" (incense offering) in the main hall. "Oshou ko" is a ritual of burning incense to worship Buddha and purify your mind and body. The method varies depending on the Buddhist sect, so please ask the temple staff.
After touring Akihabara, why not move to Asakusa and participate in the New Year's Eve bell ringing at Higashi Honganji? This would be a perfect addition to your itinerary during the Akihabara Event 2025, offering you a meaningful cultural experience.
