If you want to do sightseeing while wearing Kimono, you should go to Tenjin area and rent Kimono there. Tenjin is the historical city named after the shrine 「SUIKYOTENMANGU」 that sacred to the soul of 「Michizane Sugawara」 who lived in Heian era(in about 800). This city is exclusive shopping district in Kyushu area that has a lot of commercial facilities, but the retro atmosphere also still remains there. 「Akarenga Culture Hall」 is popular as historical architecture built in about 1900 Meiji era. It is also popular as photography spot. You could feel both current and past charms of Fukuoka by sightseeing to Tenjin while wearing Kimono.
