Traditional Events around Mt. Fuji in June 2025

First, let me introduce traditional events that have been passed down for generations around Mt. Fuji.

Mt. Fuji Opening Eve Festival

The Eve of the Mountain Opening is an event held on June 30th, the day before Mt. Fuji officially opens, to pray for climbing safety. Fujiko (people who worship Mt. Fuji), Shinto priests, and the general public participate in a parade from Kanadorii Gate to the Mt. Fuji Yoshida Exit Climbing Route. Upon arriving at the shrine, purification rituals and the Opening the Mountain ceremony take place.

The program that left the strongest impression on me was the Opening the Mountain ceremony. The moment when Tadikaraonomikoto (the mighty god in Japanese mythology) cuts the sacred rope (shimenawa) connected to the climbing gate that marks the starting point of the Mt. Fuji Yoshida Exit Climbing Route with a wooden mallet creates such tension that I felt my spine straighten.

This festival attracts many people from all over the country and is conducted with great fanfare. Would you like to experience this valuable event where you can truly feel the arrival of Mt. Fuji's climbing season? The 2025 Mt. Fuji event promises to be even more spectacular as festival organizers are planning special June 2025 commemorative activities.

Summer Great Purification Ceremony

Summer Great Purification Ceremony
Source:Official website

The Great purification ceremony held in June and December is a traditional Japanese event to purify daily calamities and impurities of mind and body, and pray for good health. The June Great purification ceremony is called the Summer exorcism ceremony and attracts many worshippers every year.

The highlight, Passing through the grass, involves following Shinto priests through a large ring made of cogon grass, which is believed to have strong spiritual power, to remove impurities.

I have also passed through the ring myself. As I went through the ring in the solemn space, I could feel myself being freed from daily distractions and experiencing a lightness of heart. I still vividly remember how participating in the ceremony refreshed my spirits and gave me a positive feeling about working hard for the latter half of the year as I headed home.

No reservation is required, so please feel free to experience Passing through the grass. This particular festival in June 2025 will feature special Mt. Fuji-themed elements to celebrate the mountain's cultural significance.

The Shibakawa Biyori Plum Village Inako Festival is an event where you can enjoy the nature-rich Inako area as part of the Mt. Fuji festival in June 2025.

The festival offers various activities including an Inako market selling fresh plums, plum products, and vegetables, amago fish catching, dance shows on a special stage, and a stamp rally. The local products market selling Shibakawa specialties is definitely a spot worth visiting.

My recommendation is the stamp rally, where you collect stamps by visiting famous Inako landmarks such as Yamanogami Shrine, Mori Inari Shrine, and the Yutorio hot spring facility. I had a memorable experience enjoying the stamp rally while walking through the lush greenery of Inako.

Through this special event that showcases Inako's charm, try experiencing a different side of the Mt. Fuji area than you might normally see.

The Mt. Fuji Ultra Walking Circuit is an event where participants walk a 125km route circling Mt. Fuji while visiting famous spots. Those who complete the entire course receive a completion certificate.

The course itinerary is as follows:

Fujisan Hongu Sengen Taisha → Shiraito Falls → Fujiyoshida → Lake Yamanakako → Fuji Sengen Shrine → Gotemba → Kodomonokuni → Sengen Shrine → Sengen Shrine Kandagawa Fureai Plaza

Water and light meals are provided at aid stations approximately every 10-20km, and you can also stop at convenience stores, making it accessible even for first-timers. However, although it's called "walking," there are some steep uphill sections, so it's advisable to prepare as you would for mountain climbing.

This popular program allows you to experience the grandeur of Mt. Fuji, but with a completion rate of only about 58%, it's recommended for those with decent leg strength.

At the Water Land Programs in Mt. Fuji Children's Country, you can enjoy various water-related activities in the Water Land area, such as canoeing, rainbow trout fishing, and water playgrounds.

I once visited with my nephew. Many children were enjoying the water playground, which is about 30cm deep, sliding down slides and splashing water at each other. When I entered the water playground with my nephew, I was reminded of my childhood and found myself getting soaked while playing like a kid again.

Children's Country also offers other facilities such as athletic courses and areas where children can interact with animals, making it a place where kids can play all day. It's recommended for families who want to enjoy leisure activities together.

Lake Kawaguchi Herb Festival

The Lake Kawaguchi Herb Festival is an event held when the lavender, known as an early summer tradition at Lake Kawaguchi, is in bloom. The main venue, Oishi Park, is located on the northern shore of Lake Kawaguchi and is an excellent spot to view the collaboration of lavender, the lake, and Mt. Fuji. The lavender spreads like a purple carpet, and this is the only place where you can encounter the mystical view of Mt. Fuji during this special June 2025 festival season that cannot be seen at other times!

During the event, there are souvenirs from Fujikawaguchiko Town, craft markets, and food stalls, so please enjoy these along with the lavender viewing during this spectacular Mt. Fuji event.

<Information>
Dates: Mid-June to mid-July 2025
Access: From Kawaguchiko Station on the Fujikyu Line, take the Lake Kawaguchi Loop Bus and get off at Kawaguchiko Natural Living Center Station

Yagisaki Park, located on the south side of Lake Kawaguchi, offers lavender blooms slightly later than Oishi Park. The park features approximately 3,000 lavender plants, and depending on the timing, you can also enjoy the combination with hydrangeas, which is an attractive point of the June 2025 Mt. Fuji festival season.

There is a café in the park with a panoramic view of Lake Kawaguchi and the park, where lavender soft-serve ice cream is a popular menu item. Why not take a stroll around the park while enjoying lavender soft-serve ice cream?

The Mishima Firefly Festival offers visitors a chance to enjoy firefly viewing and various firefly-related events in Mishima, also known as the City of Water.

I've visited this festival before, and watching the fireflies emitting soft light while flying in the darkness feels like viewing an art piece - it's so beautiful that I lost track of time. The movement of fireflies has a sense of presence that cannot be captured in photographs, making it a sight you should definitely experience in person.

Four events are held during the festival:
- Ichinomachi Firefly Festival
- Riverside Firefly by Shibamachi
- Mishima Firefly Festival
- Remember Rokutanda

The events include firefly releases, food courts and stalls, and show times on special stages - activities enjoyable for everyone from children to adults. Come enjoy the precious firefly viewing and participate in the events that are only available during this season to fully experience an early summer night! This June 2025, the festival will take place near the picturesque Mt. Fuji, making it a perfect event for tourists exploring Japan's iconic landmark.

FUJIYAMA DAYS

FUJIYAMA DAYS
Source:Official Instagram

FUJIYAMA DAYS is an event where you can enjoy world cuisine under the theme of "food and interactions with animals." Selected food trucks from across the country gather at Fuji Central Park, allowing you to experience different countries' cuisines and feel like you're traveling.

When I participated, there were more than 20 trucks, and after much deliberation, I purchased a kebab sandwich. It was packed with vegetables and juicy meat in pita bread - quite substantial, but the spicy seasoning was addictive, and I finished it in no time. Not only meals but drinks and sweets are also plentiful, so I recommend coming to the event with an empty stomach!

Besides food, there are markets and workshops for dogs and their owners, stages with performances by children, and other activities that allow you to enjoy a full day with animals. This spectacular festival takes place in June 2025 with Mt. Fuji as its backdrop, offering tourists a unique cultural experience during their visit to Japan.

Information:
- Date: June 2025 (exact dates TBD)
- Access: From Shin-Fuji Station, take the Fuji Kyuko Shizuoka Bus to Rosetheatre-mae/Central Park

For efficient sightseeing around Mt. Fuji while touring Tokyo, "Mt. Fuji Nature meets Culture Tour

If you want to efficiently tour around Mt. Fuji while visiting Tokyo, the "Mt. Fuji Nature meets Culture Tour with a Private Hire Car" with transportation from Tokyo is recommended! With this tour, you can comfortably enjoy popular tourist spots and cuisine in the Fuji area in one day via a private car.

The tour includes visiting Arakura Sengen Shrine with views of Mt. Fuji, Mt. Fuji's 5th Station, exploring Oshino Hakkai Springs, enjoying a local lunch, and experiencing wasabi harvesting at a wasabi farm - an essential ingredient in Japanese cuisine.

I have participated in this tour, and what impressed me the most was the World Heritage-designated Oshino Hakkai Springs. The springs are famous for their ponds sourced from Mt. Fuji's snowmelt, and the "Upside down Fuji" reflected on the water surface is worth seeing. The collaboration of the highly transparent, clear pond and Mt. Fuji presented a beauty I had never seen before, instantly captivating me.

Being a private tour, you can relax during travel without worrying about others, which is also an attractive point. It's recommended for those who want to experience Japan's unique nature while staying in the metropolis of Tokyo. Don't miss this amazing June 2025 festival that showcases both Mt. Fuji's natural beauty and Japanese cultural traditions!
