Shinjuku Gyoen
Shinjuku Gyoen is a popular natural spot with three gardens, including a Japanese-style garden. One of the appealing points unique to Shinjuku Gyoen is that you can photograph the skyscrapers of Shinjuku rising behind the garden, surrounded by cherry blossoms.
At Shinjuku Gyoen, you can appreciate about 900 trees of approximately 70 cherry blossom varieties. Since different varieties bloom at different times, the highlight is that you can enjoy cherry blossoms for an extended period. Early-blooming cherries can be seen in January-February, Somei Yoshino in late March, and late-blooming double-petal cherries in April.
When I visited during full bloom, the garden was spacious enough that I could enjoy it without feeling too crowded. I recommend this spot for those who want to leisurely appreciate various types of cherry blossoms.

Chidorigafuchi
Chidorigafuchi is a moat located on the western side of the Imperial Palace. Chidorigafuchi features a walking path that continues for about 700m, with approximately 230 cherry trees planted along the path, primarily Somei Yoshino and Ōyamazakura varieties.
The characteristic feature is the cherry blossoms blooming as if they're hanging over the water's surface, and the reflection of the blossoms on the water is a unique highlight of Chidorigafuchi. My favorite aspect is being able to elegantly enjoy hanami (flower viewing) while rowing a boat on the water.
From March 12th to April 23rd, the Cherry Blossom Festival of Chiyoda will be held. During the festival, the cherry blossoms are illuminated at night, and boats operate in the evening, allowing you to enjoy hanami in a romantic atmosphere, which is particularly attractive.
The festival also features guided tours and souvenir sales, so be sure to check those out as well. If you want to view cherry blossoms at night or enjoy hanami while boating, Chidorigafuchi is one of the must-visit cherry blossom spots for Events 2025.

Ueno Park has long been considered a representative cherry blossom viewing spot in Tokyo. Within the park, about 800 cherry trees bloom splendidly. At night, the cherry blossoms are illuminated by the light of orange lanterns, creating a magical atmosphere that's a highlight of the park.
The cherry blossoms also bloom magnificently around Kiyomizu Kannondo, a temple in Ueno Park. Being able to see the collaboration between traditional Japanese architecture and cherry blossoms is a special point unique to Ueno Park.
Ueno Park also contains art museums, museums, and a zoo, making it attractive for combining cherry blossom viewing with other tourist activities.
From late March to early April, the Ueno Cherry Blossom Festival will be held. Popular food and souvenir shops from the nearby "Ameyoko Shopping Street" gather, creating a lively atmosphere. When I visited, there were various artist performances and panda merchandise sales, allowing me to enjoy the entire day.

Meguro River
Meguro River is approximately 8km long, flowing through the center of Tokyo. Known as a healing spot within the bustling city, from late March to early April, about 800 cherry trees (primarily Somei Yoshino) bloom magnificently along a 4km stretch of the river.
One of the highlights of Meguro River's cherry blossom spots is how the trees arch over from the riverbanks, creating a canopy above the water. From March 19-30, the area is illuminated at night, with lights reflecting on the water, enveloping the surroundings in a fantastical atmosphere. When I visited, I took photos from one of the bridges crossing Meguro River and captured beautiful shots.
The Nakameguro Cherry Blossom Festival will be held on March 29 and 30, 2025 at Tami Hiroba Park, a 10-minute walk from Meguro Station. Visitors can enjoy cuisine from surrounding restaurants and cafes, while the stage features performances by comedians and dancers.

During peak bloom, food stalls line the area, allowing visitors to enjoy meals while relaxing at one of the most popular cherry blossom spots in Tokyo for the 2025 spring events.

Inokashira Park
Inokashira Park is selected as one of the "100 Best Cherry Blossom Spots in Japan." Early-blooming cherry blossoms begin to flower from mid-February, and approximately 400 cherry trees of various species can be enjoyed until mid-April.
Inokashira Park features a large boating pond, around which half of the park's cherry trees—about 200—bloom. The cherry trees extend almost to the water's surface, creating a space covered by a canopy of cherry blossoms, which is my favorite feature. Also, when the cherry blossoms begin to fall, the petals scatter onto the water's surface, creating a poetic atmosphere.
Inokashira Park is highly recommended for those who want to appreciate cherry blossoms up close while rowing a boat or taking a stroll. As it gets crowded during daytime on weekends, visit early in the morning or on weekdays if you want to avoid crowds.
Inokashira Park has become one of Tokyo's most popular cherry blossom spots for Events 2025, offering visitors a unique opportunity to experience Japanese spring culture.

Sumida Park is located along the Sumida River. In spring, rows of cherry trees continue for about 1km on both banks of the river. Approximately 300 cherry trees are planted on the Sumida Ward side and about 600 on the Taito Ward side, making it one of the "100 Best Cherry Blossom Spots in Japan."
The unique charm of Sumida Park is enjoying the collaboration of cherry blossoms with Tokyo Sky Tree, a popular Tokyo tourist attraction. I took a water bus from a nearby dock and was able to leisurely enjoy the rows of cherry trees. At night, Tokyo Sky Tree and the cherry blossoms are illuminated, creating a magical atmosphere.
On March 22 and 23, the "Haru no Soyokaze Tsunagaru Festival" (Spring Breeze Connection Festival) will be held. The festival features DJs and dance performances that energize the entire venue. Old Nakagawa River Kawazu Cherry Blossoms
Old Nakagawa River refers to approximately 6.7km section of the Nakagawa River spanning Edogawa Ward, Sumida Ward, and Koto Ward.
At Old Nakagawa River, early-blooming Kawazu cherry trees start flowering from late January, with peak viewing time from February to early March. From late March, Somei Yoshino and Okanzakura varieties bloom magnificently, and by early April, five species and approximately 275 cherry trees can be seen, which is the unique attraction of Old Nakagawa River.
My recommended visiting time is just after sunrise. The wind is weak in the morning and the air is clear, so the cherry blossoms reflect beautifully on the water. When the soft light of the morning sun illuminates the cherry blossoms, it creates a magical atmosphere. If you want to see Kawazu cherry blossoms and various types of cherry trees at once, please visit Old Nakagawa River.

Aoyama Cemetery
Aoyama Cemetery is the largest graveyard within Tokyo's 23 wards, where many famous politicians and writers rest. In spring, approximately 230 cherry trees line the walking paths for about 750m around the cemetery.
The sight of cherry blossoms covering the entire sky resembles a cherry blossom tunnel. One of the attractions is the variety of cherry trees you can enjoy, including Somei Yoshino, Yaezakura (double-flowered cherry), and Shidarezakura (weeping cherry). When the petals begin to fall, the roads become covered in pink, creating a vibrant atmosphere.
Despite being close to bustling commercial areas, Aoyama Cemetery is a hidden cherry blossom spot that isn't widely known. When I visited, there were only a few people taking photos of the blossoms, allowing me to enjoy hanami (flower viewing) in a peaceful setting.
I recommend this spot for those who want to quietly appreciate cherry blossoms away from the city's hustle and bustle. With the upcoming Events 2025 season approaching, this is one of the most serene cherry blossom spots you can visit in Tokyo.

Hamarikyu Gardens
Hamarikyu Gardens is a traditional Japanese garden believed to have been created around 1800. Open to the public since 1946, about 80 cherry trees of 26 different varieties bloom here in spring.
The highlight of cherry blossoms at Hamarikyu Gardens is the opportunity to see rare colored cherry blossoms such as Gyoiko (pale green) and Ukon (yellow). My favorite viewing spot is the bridge over the tidal pond. The combination of the elegant bridge and cherry blossoms creates a refined atmosphere that captures the essence of Japan.
In addition to cherry blossoms, Hamarikyu Gardens offers uniquely Japanese attractions such as 300-year-old pine trees and a tea house. It's perfect for visitors who want to experience beautiful Japanese gardens and cherry blossoms together. This is one of the premium cherry blossom spots to include in your Events 2025 itinerary.

Tokyo's famous cherry blossom viewing spots are often too crowded to comfortably enjoy the blossoms. Knowing these hidden gems allows you to enjoy hanami and photography without being affected by crowds. Below, I'll introduce some of Tokyo's lesser-known cherry blossom spots.
Asukayama Park
Asukayama Park has a long history, with cherry trees first planted about 300 years ago. It was recognized as one of Japan's first public parks in 1873. Currently, approximately 600 cherry trees bloom here in spring.
The highlight of Asukayama Park is the illuminated cherry blossoms from late March to early April, allowing visitors to enjoy yozakura (night cherry blossoms). When I visited in both morning and evening, I enjoyed the contrast of blue sky and cherry blossoms in the morning, while at night I saw completely different, fantastical cherry blossoms. There are also museums and historical archives in the park that are worth visiting.
On March 29 and 30, the Kita Ward Sakura SA*KASO Festival will be held as part of the Events 2025 calendar. The appeal is performances where you can see Japanese culture up close, such as Ryukyu Eisa dance, Japanese taiko drums, and traditional Japanese dance.
Food trucks and local shops will also be present, allowing you to enjoy Japanese food while viewing the cherry blossoms. If you want to experience both hanami and Japanese culture in a limited time, visit Asukayama Park.

Kinuta Park is an open and spacious park surrounded by lawns and trees. Within the park, from late March to early April, you can see various cherry blossoms including Somei Yoshino, Mountain Cherry, Weeping Cherry, and Double Cherry blossoms.
My recommendation at Kinuta Park is the giant Somei Yoshino tree with a trunk circumference of over 3 meters. It's rare to find such a massive cherry tree up close, so please be sure to check it out when you visit.
The attractive point of Kinuta Park is that you can enjoy cherry blossom viewing while having a picnic on the spacious lawn. You can purchase drinks at the park shop, and if you bring food, you can relax under the cherry trees.
This is recommended for families and groups who want to spend a relaxing time.

Another attractive point unique to Musashiseki Park is that you can photograph the Seibu Railway trains together with the cherry blossoms. The scenery capturing the contrast between everyday Japan and cherry blossoms is my favorite, so please try to time your shot when you visit.

Among the areas along Zenpukuji River, my favorite viewing spot is around Aioi Bridge. You can capture photos of cherry blossoms as they appear to hang over the river. When the petals start falling, you can see them flowing on the river, creating a poetic atmosphere.
Along Zenpukuji River, there are Zenpukuji River Green Space and Wadabori Park where you can enjoy cherry blossom viewing at a leisurely pace. You can also enjoy BBQ in the park, so if you want to fully enjoy both food and cherry blossom viewing, please try this experience.

Kanda River (Omokage Bridge)
The area around Kanda River (Omokage Bridge) is a spot easily accessible from Omokagebashi Station, and every year from late March to early April, rows of cherry blossoms color the landscape.
The highlight of the cherry blossoms at Kanda River (Omokage Bridge) is how they form an arch-like shape covering the river from both banks. When I viewed it from near Omokage Bridge and Mishima Bridge, I could see beautiful arches.
During the day, you can enjoy vibrant cherry blossoms against the blue sky. At night, they are illuminated, creating a magical cherry blossom experience.
On March 30th, the Sakura Festival of Waseda will be held. At the festival, you can taste traditional Japanese foods such as inari and oden. Yanaka Cemetery
Yanaka Cemetery is a cemetery located in Taito Ward with about 7,000 graves.
A road called "Sakura Street" that extends about 100m from beside Tennoji Temple becomes lined with cherry trees in spring. When in full bloom, it becomes like a pink tunnel, and when the petals begin to fall, a pink carpet spreads out, which is the highlight.
While Sakura Street is famous, large cherry trees are also scattered throughout the cemetery, so please check those out as well.
Yanaka Cemetery is a sacred and quiet space as it is a cemetery. When I visited, there were hardly any people, and I could enjoy the cherry blossoms in tranquility with a calm heart.

Showa Memorial Park

Showa Memorial Park is a park with an area equivalent to about 250 soccer fields. You can enjoy various flowers depending on the season, and in spring, you can enjoy about 1,500 cherry trees.
At Showa Memorial Park, about 30 types of cherry blossoms bloom, and the highlight is that you can enjoy cherry blossoms for a long period, from the Kanhizakura that blooms in early March to the Ukon that can be enjoyed until mid-April.
My favorite spot is the "Cherry Blossom Garden" where Somei Yoshino cherry trees gather. Since the area has expansive lawns, you can spread out a sheet and spend time leisurely with family, couples, or groups. For those who want to enjoy cherry blossom viewing while strolling, the cherry blossoms along the Zambori River are recommended.
From late March to late May, the Flower Festival is held. When I visited before, I enjoyed not only cherry blossoms but also various flowers such as rapeseed and tulips. At the 2025 Events festival, you can also enjoy photogenic scenery of blowing bubbles with cherry blossoms as a backdrop, so please check it out.
Showa Memorial Park is recommended for those who want to appreciate various types of cherry blossoms or enjoy cherry blossom viewing thoroughly as one of the premier cherry blossom spots in the region.

Mount Takao
Source:Weather News
Mount Takao is a mountain with an elevation of about 600m located approximately one hour from central Tokyo. It has become a popular hiking spot where you can enjoy cherry blossoms from early to mid-April, slightly later than in central Tokyo.
My personal recommendation is the "Ichidoudaiira" plaza. It's located about halfway along the hiking trail from Mount Takao's summit toward Kobotoke-Shiroyama, and it's a spot where approximately 1,000 cherry trees bloom. Nearby, there's also an observation deck with a panoramic view of the urban cityscape, so please visit that as well.
What makes Mount Takao special as a cherry blossom spot is that you can also enjoy bird watching and plant observation beyond just the cherry blossoms. Additionally, from the foot of the mountain to the summit, there are more than 20 shops serving "soba," a Japanese noodle dish, which is one of my favorite aspects as you can enjoy a meal after hiking. It's a perfect cherry blossom viewing spot for those who love the outdoors and mountains.
Events 2025 at Mount Takao will coincide with the cherry blossom season, making it an excellent time to visit for both natural beauty and cultural experiences.

Mejiro Garden is a garden nestled quietly in a residential area. In spring, it's known as a place to enjoy weeping cherry trees.

You can enjoy the collaboration of traditional garden buildings such as Sekichouan and Rokkaku Ukimido with the surrounding cherry blossoms, and the cherry blossoms reflect on the water surface, creating an atmospheric landscape.
At Mejiro Garden, my favorite point is that you can enjoy cherry blossoms together with other natural elements and buildings. The combination of pink cherry blossoms, blue pond, green plants, and brown traditional buildings creates a scene full of traditional Japanese ambiance.
